Why you specifically
Cụm động từ tách được (separable phrasal verbs) là những động từ có thêm một tiểu từ như up, off, in, out, on. Khi tân ngữ là một cụm danh từ, tiếng Anh thường cho phép hai cách: turn off the light hoặc turn the light off. Nhưng khi tân ngữ là đại từ như it, them, him, her, thì đại từ bắt buộc phải đứng giữa động từ và tiểu từ: turn it off, chứ không được nói turn off it. Đây là quy tắc cố định trong tiếng Anh chuẩn, rất quan trọng trong nói và viết IELTS. Không phải mọi phrasal verb đều giống nhau, nhưng với nhóm transitive separable này, mẹo an toàn là: nếu tân ngữ là đại từ, luôn đặt nó vào giữa. Nếu tân ngữ là cụm danh từ dài, thường có thể đặt sau cả cụm động từ hoặc xen giữa động từ và tiểu từ, tùy phrasal verb và nhịp câu.
The rule
Separable phrasal verbs are verbs with a particle such as up, off, in, out, or on. When the object is a noun phrase, the object can usually go after the whole phrasal verb or between the verb and the particle: turn off the light / turn the light off. But when the object is a pronoun, the pronoun must go between the verb and the particle: turn it off, not turn off it. This is a fixed word-order rule in standard English, and it is very important in writing and speaking for IELTS. Some phrasal verbs are transitive and separable, but not all phrasal verbs behave the same way. The safest rule is: if the object is a pronoun, place it in the middle. If the object is a long noun phrase, putting the particle after the noun is often more natural, but both orders may be possible depending on the verb and sentence rhythm.
