Why you specifically
The rule
This, that, these, and those are demonstratives. Use this for one thing near you, that for one thing farther away or already mentioned, these for more than one thing near you, and those for more than one thing farther away or already mentioned. In English, the demonstrative normally comes before the noun, or it can stand alone before the verb be: this book, those shoes, this is my bag, those are my friends.

Use this with a singular noun that is near the speaker.
That shoes are too expensive.
Those shoes are too expensive.
Use those with a plural noun that is far away or already mentioned.
These is my phone.
This is my phone.
Use this for one thing near the speaker.
That are my friends.
Those are my friends.
Use those with plural nouns. That is only for singular nouns.
