The rule
In English, a superlative usually needs the definite article the before it. This is true with short superlatives like the biggest, the oldest, and with long forms like the most interesting. The is normally omitted only in a few fixed expressions, such as by far the best, where the is still present, or in special title-like uses; for normal IELTS writing and speaking, use the every time before a superlative noun phrase.
