The rule
Present continuous can talk about fixed personal arrangements in the near future. It is often used with time expressions such as tonight, tomorrow, this weekend, next week, or on Friday. The plan is usually already decided, and the speaker often expects it to happen.
The trap

I meet my boss tomorrow morning.
I am meeting my boss tomorrow morning.
Use the present continuous for a planned future arrangement. The simple present sounds like a timetable or routine, not a personal plan.
She flies to Singapore next week.
She is flying to Singapore next week.
Use the present continuous for a fixed arrangement in the near future. The simple present usually suggests a schedule or general future fact, not a personal plan.
We have dinner with my parents on Saturday.
We are having dinner with my parents on Saturday.
Present continuous is natural for an arranged future event. The simple present is not used for a personal plan like this.
He starts his new job on Monday.
He is starting his new job on Monday.
Use the present continuous for a definite future arrangement. The simple present is wrong here because it does not express a personal plan.
