Why you specifically
Thì quá khứ đơn bị động dùng khi bạn muốn nói về một hành động đã hoàn thành trong quá khứ, nhưng nhấn mạnh vào đối tượng nhận hành động chứ không phải người thực hiện hành động. Công thức là was/were + quá khứ phân từ. Dùng was với chủ ngữ số ít, dùng were với chủ ngữ số nhiều. Nếu muốn nói ai làm, thêm by + người. Ví dụ: The house was built in 1998. The letters were sent yesterday. The room was cleaned by the students. Cần nhớ quá khứ phân từ không phải là dạng quá khứ đơn. Với động từ có quy tắc, quá khứ phân từ thường có đuôi -ed, nhưng nhiều động từ bất quy tắc có dạng riêng như built, sent, broken, taken, written. Trong câu bị động, chủ ngữ không làm hành động mà là người/vật bị tác động bởi hành động đó. Dùng quá khứ đơn bị động khi hành động đã xảy ra và kết thúc trong quá khứ, nhất là khi người làm không biết, không quan trọng, hoặc đã rõ. Không được bỏ was/were. Không được dùng sai was/were với số ít hay số nhiều.
The rule
Past Simple Passive is used when we want to talk about a finished action in the past and focus on the thing that received the action, not the person who did it. The form is was/were + past participle: was for singular subjects, were for plural subjects. If you want to say who did the action, add by + person. For example: The house was built in 1998. The letters were sent yesterday. The room was cleaned by the students. Remember that the past participle is not the same as the past simple form of the verb. For regular verbs, the participle often ends in -ed, but many verbs are irregular: built, sent, broken, taken, written. In the passive, the subject does not do the action. It receives the action. Use past simple passive for completed past events, especially when the doer is unknown, unimportant, or obvious. Do not use a passive form without was/were. Do not use the wrong auxiliary for singular and plural subjects.

In the passive, the action happens to the subject. Use by to name the agent if you want to mention who did it.
