Why you specifically
Câu hỏi gián tiếp là câu hỏi nằm bên trong một câu khác, thường sau các cụm như can you tell me, do you know, I wonder, she asked. Điểm quan trọng nhất là trật tự từ phải đổi sang trật tự câu khẳng định: chủ ngữ đứng trước động từ. Vì vậy ta nói where the station is, không nói where is the station. Với câu hỏi yes/no gián tiếp, ta thường dùng if hoặc whether: She asked me if I was free. Hãy nhớ rằng câu tường thuật/câu hỏi gián tiếp thường còn có sự lùi thì, nhưng trọng tâm của điểm này là trật tự câu khẳng định sau từ để hỏi. Người Việt hay bị ảnh hưởng bởi cách đặt từ kiểu trực tiếp trong tiếng Anh, nên dễ viết sai như where is..., what time does..., if was I....
The rule
Indirect questions are questions inside another sentence, often after phrases like can you tell me, do you know, I wonder, or she asked. The key rule is that the word order changes from question order to statement order: subject comes before the verb. For example, we say where the station is, not where is the station. In yes/no indirect questions, we usually use if or whether: She asked me if I was free. Remember that reported questions often follow the normal backshift in tense, but the most important point is the statement word order after the question word.
