Why you specifically
Phụ giới từ đi kèm là các giới từ được quyết định bởi động từ, danh từ hoặc tính từ đứng trước nó. Trong tiếng Anh, bạn không được chọn giới từ một cách tự do, vì chính từ phía trước sẽ “đòi” một giới từ cố định: depend on, interested in, reason for, solution to, afraid of, v.v. Với người học IELTS nói tiếng Việt, khó khăn lớn là tiếng Việt thường không dùng đúng một giới từ cố định như tiếng Anh, hoặc quan hệ được biểu thị bằng trật tự từ hay ngữ cảnh. Vì vậy các lỗi như discuss about, depend with, solution of rất dễ xảy ra. Cách an toàn nhất là học cả cụm từ như một đơn vị hoàn chỉnh, không chỉ học từng từ riêng lẻ.
The rule
Dependent prepositions are prepositions that are fixed by a verb, noun, or adjective. In English, you often cannot choose the preposition freely, because the word before it determines which preposition is correct: depend on, interested in, reason for, solution to, afraid of, and many others. For an IELTS learner, the main challenge is interference from Vietnamese, where the same relationship may be shown by word order, context, or a different pattern rather than a fixed preposition. That is why mistakes like discuss about, depend with, or solution of are common. The safest strategy is to learn the whole phrase as a unit, not only the single word.

The verb depend is followed by the dependent preposition on, not by a bare object.

The adjective afraid is normally followed by the dependent preposition of.

Discuss is followed by the topic directly, but with is needed before the person you speak to in this meaning.

The noun reason is followed by for when it means the cause of something.
