Why you specifically
Đảo ngữ trong câu điều kiện là cách nói trang trọng để diễn tả điều kiện giả định mà không dùng if. Ba mẫu rất quan trọng là: Had I known... = Nếu tôi đã biết...; Were she here... = Nếu cô ấy ở đây...; Should you need... = Nếu bạn cần... Cấu trúc này thường gặp trong văn viết, bài thi học thuật, bài phát biểu trang trọng, và nghe tự nhiên hơn trong ngữ cảnh formal. Lưu ý trật tự từ: trợ động từ hoặc động từ khuyết thiếu đứng trước chủ ngữ. Sau Had phải là quá khứ phân từ; sau Were thường dùng động từ nguyên mẫu của be trong nghĩa giả định; sau Should phải dùng động từ nguyên mẫu. Người học Việt Nam hay quên đảo trợ động từ lên trước chủ ngữ hoặc dùng sai dạng động từ sau Had/Were/Should.
The rule
Conditional inversion is a formal way to express unreal or hypothetical conditions without using if. Common patterns are Had I known..., Were she here..., and Should you need..., and they are usually used in written English, speeches, or formal speech. In these structures, the auxiliary or modal comes before the subject, and the verb form must match the time meaning: Had + subject + past participle for past unreal conditions; Were + subject for unreal present conditions; and Should + subject + base verb for a possible future condition. These forms are not used in ordinary statements, only in conditional meaning.

In formal conditional inversion, the past perfect comes before the subject: Had + subject + past participle. Using if is also correct, but the inverted form is common in formal writing.

After were in an inverted unreal present conditional, use the base form of be, not was. This pattern is formal and means the same as If she were my manager.
