Why you specifically
The rule
Because gives the reason. So gives the result. In English, because usually comes before the reason clause, and so usually comes before the result clause. At sentence level, the punctuation is often a comma before so, especially when it joins two full clauses.
The trap
I was late so the bus was slow.
I was late because the bus was slow.
Because introduces the reason, so the reason comes after because.
The bus was slow because I was late.
The bus was slow, so I was late.
So introduces the result, not the reason.
She stayed at home so she was tired.
She stayed at home because she was tired.
Because joins a reason to the main clause.
He was hungry because he ate a sandwich.
He was hungry, so he ate a sandwich.
So joins a result to the reason clause.
